How is ThuLEP different from HoLEP?
Both procedures enucleate prostate tissue from inside the capsule and have similar durability and outcomes. HoLEP uses a pulsed holmium laser; ThuLEP uses a continuous-wave thulium laser. The difference is mostly surgeon preference based on laser characteristics for a specific prostate.
Will I lose ejaculation after ThuLEP?
Retrograde ejaculation occurs in 70-80% of ThuLEP patients, similar to HoLEP. If preserving forward ejaculation is the priority and your prostate is small to medium, Rezum or UroLift may be better.
What prostate size is ThuLEP best for?
Like HoLEP, ThuLEP has no upper size limit. It's preferred for prostates over 80g where TURP and Rezum become less effective.
How long is the hospital stay?
Most patients stay one night and are discharged the morning after surgery. The catheter is removed 24-48 hours later.
