How GHRP-6 works
GHRP-6 binds to the growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHS-R1a), the same receptor activated by ghrelin, the body's natural hunger hormone. By acting on this receptor it signals the pituitary gland to release a pulse of growth hormone, and because it mimics ghrelin so closely it also produces a marked increase in appetite. This dual action, GH release plus strong hunger signalling, is the defining feature that sets GHRP-6 apart from peptides chosen mainly for their GH effect. Much of the detailed mechanistic work has been done in laboratory and animal research, and long-term human outcome data is limited.
