How is Aquablation different from TURP?
TURP uses electrical energy to cut tissue under direct surgeon control. Aquablation uses a robotic water jet guided by ultrasound mapping. Aquablation has stronger ejaculation preservation and removes surgeon variability, but is a newer technology with less long-term durability data than TURP.
Will I keep my ejaculation after Aquablation?
Yes · ejaculatory function is preserved in roughly 90% of patients in published trials. This is the strongest result of any resective BPH surgery (TURP, HoLEP, GreenLight all have higher rates of retrograde ejaculation).
What prostate size is Aquablation best for?
Effective for any size from 30g to 150g+. For very large prostates, the procedure may take slightly longer but the approach is unchanged.
