Key takeaways
Enclomiphene is a selective estrogen receptor modulator that raises the body's own testosterone instead of replacing it, which is why it can preserve fertility.
It is not an approved or registered medicine in Thailand or anywhere else. It reached late-stage trials but did not gain FDA approval. This guide says so plainly.
Because it is unregistered, most enclomiphene sold online is grey-market and unverified. Low testosterone needs a blood diagnosis, not a package from a seller.
If low testosterone is confirmed and fertility matters to you, a doctor can discuss whether enclomiphene, or the registered alternative clomiphene, is appropriate.
01
What enclomiphene is & how it works
Enclomiphene is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) that has been studied as a treatment for secondary hypogonadism, which is low testosterone caused by a weak signal from the brain to the testes rather than by the testes themselves failing.
Testosterone is controlled by a feedback loop. The pituitary releases LH and FSH, which tell the testes to make testosterone and sperm. Estrogen normally feeds back to dampen that signal. Enclomiphene blocks estrogen receptors in the hypothalamus, so the brain reads estrogen as low and turns the signal up. LH and FSH rise, and the testes make more of their own testosterone.
Because it works through the body's own machinery, the testes keep working, so sperm production is preserved. Injected or gel testosterone does the opposite: it supplies testosterone from outside, the brain switches off its own signal, the testes shrink, and fertility can be suppressed. That difference is why enclomiphene interests younger men who want to treat low testosterone without giving up the chance to father children.
It is one option, and an unapproved one. Whether it is appropriate depends on the cause of your low testosterone, your fertility goals and your blood work. That is what the doctor's assessment is for.
The brain sends the signal
The pituitary releases LH and FSH, the hormones that tell the testes to make testosterone and sperm.
Estrogen dampens it
Estrogen feeds back to slow that signal, holding testosterone within a set range.
Enclomiphene blocks estrogen
It occupies estrogen receptors in the hypothalamus, so the brain reads estrogen as low and turns the signal up.¹
The testes do the work
LH and FSH rise, the testes make more of their own testosterone, and sperm production keeps going.²

Getting enclomiphene in Thailand
Thai FDA status
Enclomiphene is not registered as a medicine with the Thai FDA, and no major regulator has approved it as a finished product. It was developed under the name Androxal but was never brought to market. The related SERM clomiphene is registered in Thailand, but for female infertility, so any use in men is off-label.⁶
How to get it through Menscape
Because it is unregistered, Menscape does not keep enclomiphene on the shelf. It is considered only after a consultation, and only if a doctor judges it appropriate, with sourcing and legal status checked case by case. In practice a doctor may recommend the registered alternative, clomiphene, instead. There is no same-day dispensing.
Why grey-market is risky
Enclomiphene is sold widely online through bodybuilding and anti-aging channels with no oversight. These products are unregistered, often mislabelled, and sometimes contain the wrong compound or dose. Low testosterone needs a blood diagnosis and monitoring, not a package from an unverified seller.
Regulatory note. Enclomiphene is not approved or registered as a medicine in Thailand; any use is off-label and physician-supervised. The Thai FDA has repeatedly warned against buying prescription medicines from unlicensed online sellers, where counterfeits are common and nobody is accountable for what you receive.⁷
03
Does it work? The evidence
Enclomiphene has been tested in phase II and phase III trials in men with secondary hypogonadism. In these studies, daily doses of 12.5–25 mg raised total testosterone from below-normal into the normal range within a few weeks, with LH and FSH rising in parallel.²
The distinguishing finding was fertility. In a controlled comparison, men on topical testosterone saw sperm concentration fall sharply, some toward zero, while men on enclomiphene kept theirs. But the programme never reached the market: the developer received a non-approval decision from the U.S. FDA, and long-term safety and efficacy data remain limited. Treat it as promising but unproven, and only under medical supervision.⁴

maintained, unlike topical testosterone in the same trials
Randomised, placebo-controlled trials in men with secondary hypogonadism (Wiehle 2014; Kim 2016). Enclomiphene is unapproved and long-term data are limited. Individual results vary.
04
Side effects & who shouldn't take it
Common side effects
Reported effects include headache, nausea, hot flushes and mood changes. Because it raises testosterone, acne and oilier skin can occur. Most are mild and dose-related.
Less common but important
The SERM class can cause visual disturbances, such as blurred vision, flashes or spots. That is a reason to stop and see a doctor. SERMs are also associated with a small risk of blood clots, and long-term safety data for enclomiphene specifically are limited.
Not suitable for
Men whose low testosterone comes from primary testicular failure, men with a history of blood clots or hormone-sensitive cancer, and anyone not being monitored with blood tests. It is not an energy booster and not for performance or bodybuilding use.
Monitoring & interactions
Testosterone, estradiol, LH, FSH and a blood count should be checked before and during use. Tell your doctor about all your medicines and any eye conditions. Because the drug is unapproved, physician monitoring is essential, not optional.
05
Alternatives & combinations
Oral · registered SERM
Clomiphene
The registered cousin of enclomiphene, approved for female infertility and used off-label in men for the same fertility-sparing effect. Because it is actually registered in Thailand, it is often the practical route when this mechanism is wanted.
Injectable · fertility-preserving
hCG
Human chorionic gonadotropin mimics LH directly to stimulate the testes. It is sometimes used alone, or alongside testosterone, to help maintain fertility and testicular size.
Standard treatment
Testosterone therapy
Gel or injections that replace testosterone directly. More established and closely monitored, but it suppresses the body's own production and can reduce fertility, which is the trade-off enclomiphene tries to avoid.

Five minutes on your phone: symptoms, health history, fertility goals and current medications. It is PDPA-protected.
Blood tests & doctor consultation
Low testosterone is diagnosed with blood work, not symptoms alone. A licensed Thai physician reviews your labs (testosterone, LH, FSH and more) by video call or in clinic at Asoke.
A plan, if suitable
If treatment is appropriate, the doctor discusses the options, including whether the registered alternative clomiphene is the safer route, and explains what enclomiphene's unapproved status means for you.
Follow-up & monitoring
Repeat blood tests and check-ins confirm the treatment is working and safe. The dose and plan are adjusted with your doctor as your levels respond.
The doctor decides. Starting a conversation is not a commitment and does not guarantee a prescription. Enclomiphene is unapproved; if it is not right for you, your doctor will say so and discuss registered alternatives.

Frequently asked questions
Can I buy enclomiphene over the counter in Thailand?
No. Enclomiphene is not registered as a medicine with the Thai FDA, so it is not sold legally in pharmacies here. Anything offered online is grey-market and unverified. Low testosterone needs a blood diagnosis and medical supervision.
How is enclomiphene different from testosterone replacement?
Testosterone replacement adds the hormone from outside and switches off the body's own production, which can shrink the testes and reduce fertility. Enclomiphene works the opposite way: it prompts your body to make more of its own testosterone, so sperm production is preserved.
Will it protect my fertility?
That is its main appeal. In trials, men on enclomiphene kept their sperm counts while raising testosterone, whereas topical testosterone lowered them. It is not a fertility treatment in itself, results vary, and a doctor should guide it.
Is enclomiphene approved anywhere?
No major drug regulator has approved it as a finished medicine. It reached late-stage trials in the United States but did not gain FDA approval. In some countries it is prepared through compounding pharmacies, which is not the same as formal approval.
If it isn't registered, how could a doctor prescribe it?
In practice a doctor is more likely to use the registered SERM clomiphene, which works through the same mechanism. Any use of either drug in men is off-label and decided case by case after blood tests.
How long until it works?
In studies, testosterone typically starts rising within the first few weeks. A doctor rechecks your blood levels to confirm the response and to adjust the plan.
Does it have side effects?
Reported effects include headache, nausea, hot flushes and mood changes. The SERM class can rarely cause visual disturbances, which are a reason to stop and see a doctor. Long-term safety data for enclomiphene are limited.
I already take enclomiphene from abroad. Can I continue it in Thailand?
Bring your prescription, the product details and recent blood work. A doctor can review your treatment, but because enclomiphene is unregistered here, they may recommend switching to a registered alternative such as clomiphene.
